#104 Greed & Denial

Synopsis: Program #104 – “Greed and Denial”

Earlier this month, Congress capitulated by passing the continual budget resolution and the debt ceiling increase without getting any belt-tightening concession from the Democrats. How is it that our representatives are unable to halt Washington’s massive deficit spending? We can blame the politicians, but the sad truth is that the majority of Americans are unwilling to end the gravy train of government largess. “My people love it so” (Jeremiah 5:31).

The spiritual malady that has infected America is not financial missteps, but greed coupled with denial. Entrenched bureaucrats cherish job security; the people want entitlements. Greed is the motive; denial is the justification. “Disaster will not come upon us” (Jeremiah 5:12).

Ancient Israel followed the same path to destruction. Program #104 covers the record of Israel’s excuses: (1) We are God’s nation, and we are too important to fail, (2) Our sin is not bad enough to deserve judgment, (3) We have faced problems before and have come out victorious. Liberal writers claim we are experiencing a new morning in America. The deficit is a conservative myth. They are saying, “peace, peace when there in no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14).

“In due time their foot will slip; for the day of their calamity is near, and the impending things are hastening upon them” (Deuteronomy 32:35)
