#108 The Pilgrims

Synopsis: Program #108 – 11/24/2013 “The Pilgrims”

Program #108 is my annual Pilgrims program. There are endless and timeless lessons to be learned from the experience of the Scrooby congregation and their 1620 settlement in the new world. The program begins with the desire all Christians have to establish a country where God’s law reigns supreme, as was the case with Abraham, who was looking for a city whose architect and builder is God.

I cover some of the historical background concerning the pilgrims’ motivations for leaving England
to build a new society. I then discuss their theology of civil government and their belief in the covenantal relationship God expects in communities. America
began with a covenant with God; but tragically, like Israel, she also has broken the covenant.
