#139 Euthanasia

Program #139 “Euthanasia” – 6/29/2014 – Synopsis

Program # 139 is about NJ Bill A2270, “Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act,” which is basically Kevorkian doctor-assisted suicide. The bill has moved out of the health committee and on to the floor for a full vote in the Senate and Assembly. I begin the program by explaining the Biblical teaching against suicide, even for the terminally ill. One woman testified in committee that she is a Christian and reads her Bible every day, yet she supports the Euthanasia bill. Apparently some people enjoy the stories in the Bible but miss the theology and didactic teaching.

I conclude by addressing a number of utilitarian arguments for and against Euthanasia – the compassion argument, the slippery slope argument, the pressure argument, and the human rights argument. It is crucial that this bill is overturned; otherwise the social attitude of the next generation will be to dispose of the elderly, the handicapped, the infirmed and the unwanted. Although this bill is evil, it may be the judgment of God upon a generation that aborted 60 million children.
