#72 “Equality, Envy, Egalitarianism”

Synopsis #72 – Equality, Envy & Egalitarianism – March 17, 2013

“Is the liberal push for social justice and equality driven by charity or envy?” Program #72 seeks to answer this question. From Cain, to Joseph’s brothers, to the Pharisees who crucified Christ, sinners have always harbored an animosity toward God’s reward for the righteous. It flows out of hatred against righteousness itself. But we must also be aware that envy has been repackaged into a respectable political platform – – egalitarianism and social justice.

Our current “Nanny State” is driven by people who hate distinctions and believe whole heartedly in the idea of egalitarianism. In secular humanism there is no such thing as sin, so all poor outcomes must be the result of victimization. Modern egalitarianism also says, “I don’t have what you have because I am a victim.” Social charity is no longer mercy upon the sinner, but a way to mock God’s principle of sowing and reaping.

The program explains Biblical passages that have been misunderstood to be teaching economic egalitarianism. This whole issue is a tough nut to crack because we can so easily deceive ourselves into thinking our jealousy is a crusade for fairness.
