#103 Debating Same-Sex Marriage

Synopsis: Program #103 – “Debating Same-Sex Marriage”

The Christian needs to be “ready always to make a defense to everyone who asks [him] to give an account for the hope that is within [him]” (1 Peter 3:15). This hope includes defending all the doctrines and standards of Christ. Program #103 gives believers resources for answering the popular question of same-sex marriage. The real issue is the authority of Christ, but the current point at which society is challenging Christ’s authority is in this matter of sexual behavior.

The arguments are divided into two categories: (1) the utilitarian, humanistic arguments which tend to be the weakest and most easily refuted, and (2) the Biblical arguments which leave one’s opponent convicted and speechless.

The occasion for this program was a recent press conference I attended where certain pro-traditional marriage groups argued for their position. I wonder, “What arguments would the prophets and apostles use, and are there any arguments they would never use because they are man-centered and, hence, give glory to man, not God?”

If one were to sum up the general themes of the Old Testament prophets, they would be

(A) Your sin is worse than you think

(B) The Judgment for your sin will be greater than you suspect

(C) The rule of righteousness is inevitable, so you’d better repent now.
